One of the things I truly appreciate about Kolej Tuanku Jaafar is the support of its community, especially teachers like Mr Thaw and Mr Hughes, in realising project ideas. We went from a mere thought of sharing poetry to organising poetry slams and starting a poetry blog; from realising a lack of mental health awareness in Malaysia to organising a workshop. I am sure others have many similar stories to share too. With support, ideas can be turned into projects to bring positive impacts to the greater community; awareness on important but little-known issues can spread like a ripple.
If you are always full of ideas and hoping to make a social impact in Malaysia, I believe Charisma Movement's Inspire Initiative is a platform you shouldn't miss.
Charisma Movement is a youth-led volunterism organisation which offers opportunities to volunteer in Malaysia, in several different fields including education and environment. Every year, our Inspire Initiative project looks to conduct an event/programme which idea comes from the general public. The chosen proposal may receive our support on funding, planning, logistics and marketing. I, as the Inspire Initiative Director of Charisma Movement, will work with you, to ensure the project aligns closely with your vision and that it is able to bring widespread impact to the Malaysian community.
With Inspire Initiative, we aim to:
1. Inspire and encourage charity work and volunteerism in Malaysia.
2. Empower Malaysians youths by helping them transform their ideas into reality.
3. Instill leadership skills by encouraging innovative volunteering ideas.
4. Raise awareness and highlight issues that are not being made known to the public.
5. Encourage the public to advocate for the different causes in Malaysia.
The Inspire Initiative projects that Charisma Movement have organised so far are very well-ranged, from health awareness- ‘Keep the Heart Beating’, activism awareness- ‘Malaysia’s Rainy Days’ to social inclusion- ‘Jom Berbahasa Isyarat’. We have hosted the biggest CPR relay in Malaysia through ‘Keep the Heart Beating’; published a collection of volunteer stories through ‘Malaysia’s Rainy Days’ (which is up for grab at only 7.5 pounds!) and conducted a sign language workshop under ‘Jom Berbahasa Isyarat’.
As for 2020, Charisma Movement plans on continuing the initiative founded in 2012 by providing a platform for the public to advocate on issues of their interest. The public is welcome to submit proposals promoting volunteerism or encouraging charity work while highlighting the current affairs in Malaysia. I am really looking forward to help Charisma Movement expand its project to a new field which we have yet to explore, and spread impactful awareness across the Malaysian community.
Our applications open from 1 to 22 February 2020. All you have to do is come up with a good idea and submit it using our designated layout, which can be found on our website.
