Taiwanese Travel Fair

Taiwan is an absolutely beautiful country next to the great China. This four-seasoned country has fascinating sceneries as well as luscious Taiwanese snacks throughout the whole country.   Spring makes its advent here in the relaxing breeze and sweet scent of the floras. Beaches are all full of people spending their Summer holidays there, basking in the sun and getting their skin swarthy tanned. Then Autumn arrives, the leaves start to turn red, a picnic by a brook with crystalline water is just suitable for young couples. At last when the cold comes, with snowflakes start to fall, the most beautiful places to visit freeze in the Winter air, making them to look even more spectacular than ever.   Don't you think Taiwan is a nice place to visit?   On the 31st of December 2012, from 2pm to 6pm in the afternoon, there will be a Taiwanese Travel Fair at Sutera Mall, Johor Bahru. You will find it worthwhile to visit the fair. Maybe you will be able to get some valuabl...

English Learning

A Thousand Years singer, Christina Perri, shared Christmas joy with her fans as she released a six-track EP, A Very Merry Perri Christmas. I, Euan Thum, ain't a Christian, I don't celebrate Christmas; I ain't an artiste, I don't release albums. But, I do love like to share my mirth of learning English.   English is an international language, which is pretty essential for us to learn well. Let us look at a simple scenario here: A middle-aged sitting by a table in a palatial office, a secure smirk appears on his rosy face as he receives a cheque with a substantial amount written on it. No doubt and it's evident, he's the boss of a company. For being adroit enough in dealing with his Caucasian business partner, he deserve to have this glorious life. From the certificates and degrees that are nailed on the walls, we all learn that this earnest and sagacious man mastered English at an amazing standard which led him to success.     See, English is just so imp...

Tantalizing Thai Food

Thai food is well-known for its "sour & spicy" flavour. There's a Thai restaurant located in Taman Impian Emas, Johor Bahru, selling scrumptious Thai dishes that would definitely make you feel mouth-watering.   This restaurant, with the name of Thai Tong-Kum, succeeded in bringing dishes with the real "sour & spicy" taste from Thailand, such as Tom Yam, green curry and Asam steamed fish, all spicy and hot, with generous portions of spices and herbs in them, which make the dishes refreshing and just nice for you to try.   Thai restaurant must have Thai-style decorations. Yep, of course there's no doubt about this point. The inner part of Thai Tong-Kum is decorated with the fusion of traditional and modern Thai ways. Orange lights of sunset, traditional Thai wallpapers, white tables and chairs, which are bought in a large number to prevent their customers from fighting for seats.   First saw that Chinese tea could be in maroon colour when I...

Christmas Glory

Everyone loves Christmas, which is tomorrow. And now is Christmas Eve, so let us rejoice and celebrate this festive evening with the best wishes for our beloved Christian brothers and sisters around the world.     Ever since our parents told us about the birth of Lord Jesus Christ on the 25th of December, we all believe in the beautiful Christmas on that day every year. As a tradition, presents were exchanged among friends and relatives. This has become a chance for people to enhance their feelings and relationship with one  another. Friendship, love, kinship are given a boost.   Cold comes, snow falls, snowmen erected, with creepy grins on the faces. Christmas trees, decorated, lights shone among the branches and leaves, warm added a bit. Families and friends; couples and kids, all enjoying the presents and wishes from Santa Claus.   Many Christmas songs by people's favourite celebs were played out loud on the streets. Mistletoe by Justin Bieber ...

Troublesome

No one would like a troublesome person, so we sure have different ways to keep ourselves away from people like that. Avoid and dodge. Let's see how Taylor Swift took care of her ex-boyfriend with her third single from the album Red - I Knew You Were Trouble .   Ever since some guys had this country-pop blonde brokenhearted, sad songs appear. Joe Jonas from Jonas Brothers and Twilight star, Taylor Lautner had ended up a muse to her heartbreak apology songs, Forever And Always and Back To December respectively.   But now, things changed. Taylor's music style, from country to pop; her hairstyle, from wavy to silky straight. All she needs aren't songs for sorry, but rocky swaps for the boys who ever make her teardrops fall. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is her success for a swap, which becomes one of her greatest hits.   The 23-year-old singer once claimed that 2012 was a different year for her. So, she herself added some styles to the lyr...

Costa Victoria, Part 3

Time fled away fast, and it came to the forth day of my trip. The waiters and waitresses of Sinfornia Restaurant, where my family and I dined every night, presented some fascinating entertainments for us.   Music was played out loud and the crews started to look for dance partners. My Dad got this very lucky chance to dance with a gorgeous Chinese waitress, and I just got enough time to snap a perfect shot of them.   Oh well, I'll definitely miss this place. But then, I wouldn't forget my Arts teacher, Miss Francesca, too. This Italian lady really loves arts. She taught many of the passengers Origami with a friendly, kind smile. So there's no doubt, everyone loves her.   The words 'COSTA VICTORIA' was nicely painted in navy blue on the tallest wall of the cruise ship. It did look stunning behind the lights that were shining so brightly even though it was already late at night. We went back to our cabin, packed our luggage and slept early as we're lea...

Tales By The Pools

Many people love to swim, so am I. During my cruising trip, I explored Costa Victoria and found that it has 2 big pools and 4 bubbly Jacuzzis, all outdoor and only opened to the passengers from breaking dawn till twilight.   I could barely get a chance to enter a pool at home. So of course, in order to give myself a perfect holiday, I would do everything that I pleased. I swam almost everyday in the salty pool water, which really hurts my eyes (but it magically cured my acnes). According to my father, the water was pumped from the sea, passing through all kinds of filters and sieves all the way along the pipes to finally end up in the pools.     Sunbathing will always tan you, trust me.   Sunbathing was my next programme after swimming. And now that I returned home, I only found that I was tanned, my skin looks swarthy. Many of my friends were all shocked after seeing my darkened skin.       Every afternoon, there would be free game...

Khoo Kong Si Clan House

Is there any places to visit in Penang other than Kek Lok Si? Yeah, good question, 'cause it was said that your trip would never complete without visiting the Khoo Kong Si Clan House.   Located in Georgetown, built about a century ago, every single piece of this Chinese clan house is much more valuable than any other heritage sites in Penang. The founders of this clan house had the surname of Khoo. They owned a vast piece of land on the island in a location called Bandar Baru Air Itam where they engaged a development company, Fahlim, to built houses.   I walked into the clan house and looked at the walls that were crafted by experts in the past. How to imagine them climbing the ladders that were tall enough as if it never ended and drawing the lines with hot, black ink.   At the back of the clan house is the Khoo Museum. Don't forget to go there as you can find boards and banners that shows the history of the clan house.   A heart-warming s...

The Pearl Of Orient

Penang, also known as the "Pearl Of Orient", is a very beautiful island in Malaysia with a rather busy city named Georgetown. It is full of spectacular cultural and heritage of the Chinese people.   This very small island has mostly Chinese residents. However, there are still places like Little India, Kampung Melayu, Lebuh Acheh that represent the heritage of the other races of people.   Little India is one of the places in Penang with the most Indian businesses. The streets there are filled with shops selling all kinds of Indian goods such as gaudy sarees, jasmine flowers for their prayers, spices, ingredients of food, etc, imported from India.     Murals! There are plenty of walls with this kind of drawings around Georgetown. This one looks special, a boy who steals. But, why is he trying to steal a rotten banana? Can't he just set his target on a bunch of fresh banana?       Chew Jetty, 姓周桥. UNESCO World Heritage Site. ...

Costa Victoria, Part 2

It stopped by at at Langkawi on the third day of our cruise. The morning light pierced through the hazy morning, making the cold to flee.     Taxi and coach drivers were already waiting at the huge jetty, expecting to find customers there and make easy money. My family and I did disembark from the cruise ship but we walked by our own and didn't ask for their help.     The weather turned hot fast while we're taking pictures. Drops of sweat began to fell from our rubicund faces as the scorching sunlight was shone so directly at these 99 islands, which are full of remarkable legends each.     As we walked down the street, I saw something cool enough to attract my sight. Didn't know what the figure was called, but it's really amazing as it showed us how far we were from some of the world's most famous cities. Interesting, huh?     And I was wondering, how far was I from my house? Home Sweet Home~     We we...

At Night, At Sea: Fun That Never Ends

Who loves gambling here? If gambling is your favourite pastime,  you'll never ever have a boring moment onboard as there's a big casino in Costa Victoria, where you can have fun while at sea.   It's a bit weird to sat that I could walk into the casino area, but it was true. Tell you why, there's actually a space full of video games machines for children at one casino. It's a good idea 'cuz parents may drop their kids there and go to gamble without any worries. But, it's a mistake too as they have to break the law and let children walk into the casino. = ='''   Or if you don't like to be trapped in the casino, you may just walk to the bar at the same deck with the casino, where there's were BINGO games to play with fascinating prizes to be won. The games was easy and fun to play, but I didn't play. XD  Look at all those people at the back, they did enjoy very much, didn't they?   Pool! How many people would immediate...

At Night, At Sea: Shows That Never Fade

Think that nights at the ocean are boring because you have nothing to do? Don't worry, there are plenty of  enthralling shows every evening, hosted by different performers and crews of the ship at the one and only Festival Theatre, which will warm your heart and even bring your soul to live.   It was so great that on my second twilight on Costa Victoria, just before I went have my dinner, the captain, Captain Alfredo Romeo, showed up to greet his passengers. He introduced the directors and senior officers of cruise ship after giving a short speech. Free cocktail drinks and cookies were given to everyone.   There was another show at the same place after our dinner that day. A couple of artists went on the stage and showed everybody their their strong and powerful voices that might absolutely lead us to the break of glass. But fortunately, there's no glass around there.   The next day, we got this funny and crazy Kip Reynolds. I was indeed amazed by that...

Tricks Of The Sun

I woke up early the next morning as I would really love to watch the beautiful sunrise. Many other passengers woke up early to watch the sunrise too. Everyone had already stood at the back part of the cruise ship when the stars were still shining in the navy blue sky.     Then 10 minutes later a shallow ray of sunlight turned up. It was elegant in the fusion colour of mauve, white and light blue. The sky suddenly turned bright and all of us could see the view of the vast ocean clearly.       Ray with red essence joined the party too after that. The whole sky became brighter as dawn was about to break.        The sun rose up a bit and it added orange and grey to the sky. The sea somehow looked darker in grey then.     The beautiful sun rose behind the grey clouds, giving out its golden ray. An orange-coloured reflection of the ray appeared on the surface of the sea. The morning sun shone so romantic...

Costa Victoria, Part 1

Costa Victoria, an Italian cruise ship built in the year of 1996, has become one of the most famous cruise ships in the entire Europe. Now, it has come to Singapore, as it is chosen to be the first Asian country to operate from, while Malaysia and Thailand will be the second and third respectively. The captain of this cruise ship, Captain Alfredo Romeo, would like to bring his passengers to enjoy the serene environment and delicious food of South-East Asia.     This gigantic cruise ship has about 12 decks, each with different names and enjoyable facilities. All passengers have to board from Marina Bay Cruise Centre, Singapore, with the normal immigration and clearance procedure to do before they board the ship.     The first place you see after entering into the cruise ship would be at the 5th deck. This place is usually used to have some arts & crafts and cooking demonstrations. Sometimes, dancers of this cruise ship would teach us how to dance ~ o ...
