The Pearl Of Orient

Penang, also known as the "Pearl Of Orient", is a very beautiful island in Malaysia with a rather busy city named Georgetown. It is full of spectacular cultural and heritage of the Chinese people.

This very small island has mostly Chinese residents. However, there are still places like Little India, Kampung Melayu, Lebuh Acheh that represent the heritage of the other races of people.

Little India is one of the places in Penang with the most Indian businesses. The streets there are filled with shops selling all kinds of Indian goods such as gaudy sarees, jasmine flowers for their prayers, spices, ingredients of food, etc, imported from India.

Murals! There are plenty of walls with this kind of drawings around Georgetown. This one looks special, a boy who steals. But, why is he trying to steal a rotten banana? Can't he just set his target on a bunch of fresh banana?

Chew Jetty, 姓周桥. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Do you know that there are jetties with this kinda Chinese surname is Chew, doubt that. Some of the residents here earn a living by selling souvenirs, in front of their houses to tourists who visit the site.

Em... Let's change the scene. My brother and I got a chance to take a ride on a special vehicle that you find common in Penang (and Malacca), trishaw. Slow, fun. That uncle brought us for a huge round in town, for RM10, but I think that it's kinda expensive.

Working With Passion

I've long worked behind the lens. When I started experimenting with photography almost a decade ago, I was heavily criticised for the wrong angles, the misfocused subjects, and my pointless artistry. I tried and tried without proper equipment or professional guidance, but the determination to validate my photography skills had kept me going against the currents of criticism. In the midst of helping others 'capture a moment', as I would call it, I saw myself starting to request for similar photos to be taken for me, in hopes of keeping memories of my own in photographs. One person told me once, 'You're kinda like a model'. That was about 4 years ago, when I had finished high school for a couple of months.
