Studying The Environment in Iceland

Iceland is a place where many would call an ‘Alien Planet’, given its majestic landscapes that look out of the world, and its co-existence of both glaciers and geothermal heat. This gorgeous island stands isolated in the far end of the world, but remains one of the most popularly visited countries (in normal pre-Covid climate). My trip there had included guided tours to hike not one but two glaciers, snorkel in a fissure and a boat tour in a glacier lagoon which beauty only took my breath away. These experiences were made incredibly informative by the guides, who had incredible work ethics especially when it comes to environmental protection. I remember learning about climate change and global warming in school, but getting to Iceland opened my eyes to witness these phenomena right before me. My horizon was widened when I had thought-provoking discussions with my guides on the unique Icelandic landscapes and the impact brought forward by geotourism. With no further ado, I would dissect...

The Virtual Battlefield

Advancement in social media has brought convenience into many's lives. Yet, one man's meat is another man's poison. Social medias have a dark side in secret many could not identify at first sight. The virtual platform is a breeding ground of cyberbullying. The Morbid Headcounts   A recent sharp rise in the number of depression cases and suicide reports has aroused the society's concern. Statistics have shown that 60% of depression cases in Malaysia are caused by cyber-bullying. Teenagers enjoy the fun social medias can bring, where they share their candid moments in life with friends and stay in contact.   Well, that's what most of us thought. In reality, the network is often misused as a battlefield to discriminate specific individuals. The reasons to sparkle online feud is often variable. Some 'gang up' to dominate over a particular person probably just based on his small-sized body frame, a scar on his body, parents' occupations or anything else ...

Turn Off Your Technology

Gone are the days when luncheons and dinners bring families and friends a joyful occasion as they chat with full liveliness and laughter. Yet, drawing my previous experience, lunch dates have become a gathering of the dead in recent years. Around the dining table, everyone has a electronic device in their hands, looking down at it and swiping for updates. An awkward silence replaces the happy chatter.   Has a similar scenario struck your life? Perhaps, it's the time to reflect on the proper use of technology.   Many may think that electrical devices such as smartphones and laptops are an essential part in life to keep us up-to-date. Without a proper technology in hand, we are left far behind and would not be accepted by the current society. A truth or a myth? I humbly suggest that it is the latter.   Life is not about having all information on our fingertips. It is not about achieving but about finding and cherishing the precious moments with our loved ones. Imag...

Starstruck!

HI!  Have I grabbed your  attention? That means a lot to  me, you know.   Well, I ’m just another  tedious boy, wearing specs  and slippers, holding a book  in the crowd. But I guess  what  genuinely  makes me a little  confident is that I have a  heart carved out of the  determination and courage to  learn.   I love writing, which is  now a part of my life.  Inspired by Taylor Swift, I  scream to the world on how I  live my  days  through words. It is not  just as a preferred pastime  and an adroit I c...

Don't Strike The ACE

According to Wikipedia, gambling is the wagering of valuables with an uncertain outcome. Many enjoy the satisfaction it can bring through the winning of pennies. However, it is in fact a blind favor of indulgence, in which a gambler strikes on the climax of his nights without foreseeing the adverse effects that might be cast from the actions.   Many hold the false idea that gambling is the most effective method of striking riches instantly. People stride into casinos, with eyes gleaming with hopes in acclaiming double or even triple the value they wager. But gambling is unpredictable. It is a pure dependence on luck without any guarantee of winning, which causes us to lose money easily. How? A missing piece of luck can lure gamblers into incorrigible addiction given that some unsatisfied people believe their system will always pay off on the next round.   As the gamblers get addicted to gambling, they would rather spend their days at the gambling table than to wor...

This Perfect 'Sick Beat'

The seven-time Grammy Awards winner, Taylor Swift, with that bewitching and fascinating combination of strength and vulnerability, has undeniably transformed herself into one of the most inspirational singer-writer of this generation. The American blonde, who turned 25 last December, had struck yet another massive success with 1.287 million copies of her fifth studio album, 1989 , sold out in its first week of release. The album broke numerous records as the 19 th album in music history to achieve more than 1 million first-week sales, and even succeeded in surpassing the Frozen: Soundtrack to be the best-selling record in the year of 2014.   Inspired by the remarkable music produced in the 1980s, Swift blends her very personal and daring song-writing prowess into the genre of Pop, making an album louder and poppier than anything she had ever released before. Her act has been noted as a dare shift, for it is a verily risky decision to make, to put her reputation on an unp...

The Sole Survivor (Version 2.0)

Water, water was everywhere! It choked me, salty. It was the sea. I blinked hard, but the more I did so, the more intensely my eyes ached. I was poised between life and death. My memories flooded in my mind like a kaleidoscope… my family, my friends, my job, my life… I thought I was to lose them all. Now that I realized that life could be so fragile and short, my heart beat in a chaotic rhythm. I seemed to have lost everything I had in a blink of an eye.   The sun was setting down faster than ever and the water turned cool. I tried to keep myself afloat as smoke and hazardous debris surrounded me. I prayed that none of them would explode. I had cheated death once, and I would not dare hope for a second miracle. I grabbed a large brown piece of floating debris which looked like a wooden board. With the last bit of strength left in me, I climbed onto it. My eyes, still blazing with pain, slowly closed as I blacked out.   I did not know how long ...
