A gold medal for ten years of practice. Ye Shiwen, a swimmer from China, who is only 16 years old, seized a gold medal on last Saturday in the women's 400m individual medley. She also broke the previous world record of 4: 29.45s with 4:28.43s.
Shiwen started learning swimming when she was 6. She was told by her coach, who discovered her talent, that she could get a chance to take part in Olympics if she works hard.
She always has a dream of winning a gold medal at the Olympics, so this time it was a dream come true. She had even broken the previous world record set by Australian Stephanie Rice at the Beijing Games in 2008.
On the other hand, Sun Yang, 20, scored another gold in the men’s 400m freestyle for China on the same day. He became the first man of China the Olympics gold for swimming.
What do we need to pay for a gold medal, wealth and fame? With our money? No, it's our time and hard work. Ye Shiwen had proven this to all of us as she spent ten years of time practising to reach the level she was in.
