Ninja Diaries

***It’s nearly midnight. What a sporting day I had, I stole an antique vase and I’d gonna sell it at the market tomorrow. The air was cool, the sky was dark with little stars shining luminously up high. Everything was too silent, even the fall of a needle on the floor could be clearly heard. All I thought was to sleep right away, I was so tired. I simply left the windows opened, knowing that no one’s out there and climbed into my bed. There left things to happen mysteriously.

*Yet, I’m on another secret mission again. Gosh…what a frosty night. If it’s not because of the money, I ain’t gonna be here. Mr. Oka’s vase was stolen by that bastard too, I’m requested to kill him no matter am I getting back the vase, he just want him dead. I put my legs on a quick, light run, speeding on people’s roofs in a quiet mode.
**Here I am again, trying to kill that idiot. He made my mission failed last night. But thank god he left his windows opened tonight, stupid. What made him such a careless thief? Letting people to kill him in a too easy way after causing so much trouble on people’s lives. I’d just bought a new ivory bow which I’m getting used to it, and had my arrows remained sharp as new. My shurikens and fire bombs are here if I really need them. I’m not gonna fail this time.
*Whoa, wait! Is there another ninja here too? Two ninjas requested? Or the thief asked for his protection. This is gonna be hard like this. I draw my katana, prepare to fight with the small dark figure.
**Another ninja? Please don’t tell me that he’s here to protect that loser thief. I MUST NOT fail tonight. I hop up and throw some of my shurikens at him but ironically he blocked them with his sword. Who the hell is he?

*He lands and stands a few meters away from me, obviously keeping a distance. What is he doing here? What does he want? That thief’s house is attachable right here, his windows are widely opened. I turn my head back and look at him, his mask has already taken off. He’s….no. She’s a kunoichi. What? Seriously? A woman? A stern, stubborn but beautiful face with a pair of bright eyes. I see her do no offence, I take my mask off.
**Em? A normal man. Strong and good dealing with Katana. Great. “I mean no offence. I’m on a mission to kill the man inside, please don’t stop me,” I say in a fast squeak after a short pause in examining his attractive figure. He has cool eyes and a straight nose.
*“What? I’m here to take him too, you mind if we work together?” I ask. My voice is still a little trembling in surprise of her beauty and sweet voice, but I try to look confident so I swirl up a smile to show my friendliness. You have no idea how great can I collaborate with people. I can do that with her.
**Man….he’s cool, and hot. “Yeah, why not?” I feel myself blushing with passion, my heart is almost in my mouth. My lips twists into a wide, lovely smile I’d never showed to anyone before. I never smile, but for this guy I just did. I walk forward in small, gentle steps as he does the same, till we’re only at the distance of one arm’s length. My eyes can’t leave his, he hasn’t been staring at any other direction but me neither. I inhale sharply, and flush another field of red.

*She is really hot. Her eyes locked mine at the same position. I feel like wanting to kiss her but maybe I’ll keep that for later when we’re both free. I pull out my shurikens and look at the open windows. She holds up ha few cartons of fire bombs in her hand, she takes a glimpse at me and say, “1, 2……” I make my hand ready. “3” We throw at the same timing. My shurikens land faster on that man and blood spills out of sight before he can moan in pain. The house bursts into blazing flame and the cool air quickly turns muggy.
**Finally my mission is completed. And I want this man as the only reward. I want him.
*I take out my hand and she slips her small ones into it. And I swear I’ll never let it go unless she asks me to. And she never asks me to.

The Human Being—A Complex Organism

Human beings are complex and special organisms as there is a complex organisation of cells in the human body. The organisation in the human body is summarised as follows: Cells—> Tissues—> Organs—> Systems—> Organism.   The same type of cells which carry out a specific function are organised into a tissue. For examples, a group of muscle cells form a muscle tissue while a group of nerve cells form a nerve tissue. They are organised to work together to perform specific functions as the result of cells in the human body do not work individually.     An organ is a group of tissue that cooperates to carry out a specific life process. For examples, a group of muscle tissues, epithelial tissues and connective tissues form blood vessels. Several organs are organised into a system. Each system consist of several organs which are organised to carry out life processes such as respiration, reproduction and digestion.     Various systems in th...

I am Euan Thum. This is my story.

No one is born a leader, but no one is born to stay shy and quiet forever too. I was a timid and unconfident boy who grew to celebrate individuality.  I discovered my passion in poetry in high school and I never stopped exploring what I can create. I co-founded a society in college to share the love for poetry and had organised poetry recitals to help others discover its beauty. My poems have now been featured in several international publications and journals.  During the global pandemic, I released two poetry collections for charity, which have raised more than RM1k combined! Poetry was an incredible flotation device and artistic outlet for me during the pandemic, and being able to share my art with the world allows me to connect with others in ways I never imagined before.  Over the years, I became committed to enrich the community around me through volunteering and fundraising. This propels me towards fighting for important causes in our society including wildlife con...

Working With Passion

I've long worked behind the lens. When I started experimenting with photography almost a decade ago, I was heavily criticised for the wrong angles, the misfocused subjects, and my pointless artistry. I tried and tried without proper equipment or professional guidance, but the determination to validate my photography skills had kept me going against the currents of criticism. In the midst of helping others 'capture a moment', as I would call it, I saw myself starting to request for similar photos to be taken for me, in hopes of keeping memories of my own in photographs. One person told me once, 'You're kinda like a model'. That was about 4 years ago, when I had finished high school for a couple of months. My hair was flowing a little freer than before and I had more time on my hands to run around Johor Bahru with my friends, looking for adventures and photoshoots. That 5-word line was an inspiration I did not see coming. In fact, I did not realise it had done the...
