Have you
ever heard about the Teru Teru Bozu (てるてるのが坊主 in Japanese)? No? But perhaps you’ve
seen one before.
Teru Teru Bozu is a cute, white, ghost-like
doll. According the Japanese legends and the people’s beliefs, this “spooky”
doll is able to prevent raining days and bring the bright sunny sun out if you
hang it near a window. But it’s just a legend, you don’t need to be upset if it
doesn’t work.
This doll appears in many animes throughout
the whole nation and also overseas. People might have some images or recollections
of it in their mind but do you know its name? It’s called Teru Teru Bozu. Guess
what? I think it’s a weird name. It somehow too long, but who cares?
Do you have something like this hanging by
the window at home? Is it looking through the glass at the balmy morning or is
it trying to turn its head so it’s looking at you? To scare you, probably. Now
it’s reminding me of the Annabelle doll from The Conjuring. Are they ever
friends?
